World Champion - Shooting Stars !!!

Renegade All-stars Shooting Stars is one of the first special needs cheerleading teams in our area. We were the first special needs team South of Knoxville Tennessee and North of Marietta, Georgia. The Shooting Stars cheerleading team is open to special needs athletes age 4 and up.

Our Mission... The mission of the Renegade Shooting stars is to provide year round athletic training and competition for children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other athletes, and the community.

FAQ….

What kind of commitment is involved in joining the team?
Team members will practice one hour a week at Renegade Athletics. During the competition season which typically runs from September to April the team will participate in several local and national competitions.

Does everyone “make” the team?
Of course! We believe that every athlete can succeed at cheerleading. Everyone’s needs and abilities are different. What ever your athlete’s special need is we will work with them. Even the most challenged athlete can participate.

What if my special needs athlete can’t tumble?
We have all been given different talents in life, so if you can’t tumble we will work around it and find another area in which your athlete can excel.

Are athletes in wheelchairs allowed?
Yes definitely! In fact during our first season the center for our pyramid was indeed an athlete in a wheelchair.

Who will work with my athlete?
Our volunteer staff consists of adult head coaches and junior coaches who are also Renegade Cheerleaders and will be on the floor with the team during competition. Staff members are familiar with competition cheerleading and special needs athletes. We have a former special education teacher on staff and years of special need experience.

How did this program start?
Shooting Stars started when the right combination of people got together in the summer of 2007. Once the decision was made to add a special needs team to the Renegade All-star family a dream quickly became a reality. Within weeks plans and fundraising started. Signups were held in September of 2007. The staff was overwhelmed with the turn out. The squad officially started practicing the first week of October with ten members.

What does the future hold?
Once we started to dream and saw the reality of the differences that we were making we decided to continue to plan for the future. Our hope is through sponsorships and fundraising efforts we can have not one team but two teams next year and in the future have not only teams but a complete program that will specialize in training your special needs athlete.

How much does it cost?
Currently through fund raising efforts we have been able to provide this program at no cost to the families of these athletes. We provide uniforms, shoes, hair bows, warm-ups, practice space, music, and choreography all at no cost. Family members also have the opportunity to do their own fundraising to help offset travel expenses to competitions.

How can I help sponsor this team?
Thanks for your interest in sponsoring this team. We really appreciate it. We are a non- profit program so your donation is tax deductible. If you would like more information about sponsoring this program please call Leslie at (706)629-9175.
